UCR NRS Inclusivity Internship
An undergraduate summer internship to students to gain field experience working at UCR's Natural Reserves. This is a 8 week program where students will be paired with a faculty person or mentor working at a reserve. Sponsored by generous donations from Mary Price and Nick Waser .
California Ecology and Conservation Course
California Ecology and Conservation is an undergraduate field program that brings together students from across the UC system for seven weeks of intensive scientific training at NRS reserves. Guided by experienced field instructors, students complete a series of increasingly independent research studies while learning to detect natural patterns, frame questions into feasible research projects, and apply field techniques. At the conclusion of each project, students analyze their data and present their findings in oral presentations, posters, and written reports. Students hone their research, public speaking, and scientific writing skills with constant practice and feedback while gaining a working familiarity with California’s diverse ecosystems.

The fellowships enable students to focus on gaining valuable hands-on research experience under the guidance of a faculty researcher. Each $6,000 award consists of a $5,000 student stipend and $1,000 to cover project costs.
Application deadline for summer 2022 is January 20th. More information on applying here.
The Swarth Fogel NRS Undergraduate Research Scholarship
The Swarth Fogel Undergraduate NRS Research Fellowship provides up to $1,000 to UC Merced undergraduates working with a UC Merced faculty or staff member on research at one of the campus’s four field stations, including the NRS’s Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve and Yosemite Field Station. Students from backgrounds that have traditionally been excluded from scientific and field science research are particularly encouraged to apply, as are students who have made or are making substantial contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion and access in science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) fields and/or research.
Research Experience for Undergraduates
There are a number of National Science Foundation funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs that work at field stations. These are national programs, you will find several listed here through the Organization of Biological Field Stations (OBFS). Note, some listings may be out of date, check the home institution/ university for the most up to date information. A full list of all REU Programs can be found here .
